special set of hand-crafted porcelain plates featuring a design by acclaimed
Los Angeles-based artist John Baldessari for the "Buon Ricordo America"
collection is available exclusively at Locanda del Lago in Santa Monica.
These Collector Plates are adorned with a distinctive image of a woman
and a fish to symbolize Lago's cuisine from Italy's Lake Region.
One is a 12-inch dinner plate, and the other is a 10-inch bowl.
The "Buon Ricordo America"
Collector Plates are featured at top Italian restaurants around the
country. Each has a different
image created for "Buon Ricordo America" by artists of international renown,
including Milton Glaser, Christo, and Aldo Luongo, among many others.
The shapes of the plates exactly reproduce those made in 1575 by Florence's
Grand Duke Francesco I de Medici, which are found today in museums throughout
the world.
A portion of the proceeds
from the original sale of each plate to Lago were donated to the Audrey Hepburn Children's
Fund, which supports a network of humanitarian organizations that assist
children in need worldwide.
"Buon Ricordo America" is
a non-profit organization founded in 1995 and comprised of prestigious
Italian restaurants dedicated to preserving and promoting the values of
Italian regional cuisine. 
Locanda del
Lago's "Buon
Ricordo America" Collector Bowls are $39 each (sorry, plates are sold out) at the
restaurant. They are also available by mail for a shipping/handling charge.
